The reigning champions, who spent heavily in the summer to reinforce Arne Slot’s squad, have dropped to 11th after six defeats in seven league outings, their lowest position in more than a decade. Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest prompted fans to leave Anfield early, a rare sight on Merseyside and a stark reflection of growing unease.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League meeting with PSV Eindhoven, Robertson admitted performances have fallen “well below” the club’s historic standards but urged unity amid a difficult period.
“We can have no complaints about the criticism,” the Scotland captain said. “It’s justified because of the results we’ve had. The standards here have been set for years. When you fall beneath them, scrutiny follows. Now it’s on us to stay together.”
Robertson stressed the importance of players shutting out external noise and rediscovering belief, adding that experience inside the dressing room would be vital. “You don’t turn from a world-class player into a bad one overnight. The key is not getting swept up in social media or outside opinions.”
Despite supporters’ discontent, Robertson said he held “no blame whatsoever” for those who exited early on Saturday. “Three-nil at home to Forest is unacceptable,” he conceded. “But we know how powerful Anfield can be. It’s on us to give them something to shout about again.”
While Slot has described the slump as “ridiculous” and “unbelievable,” Robertson remains convinced Liverpool will find a way back. “I still believe in every player here,” he said. “The good times will return, but we need to show it.”
