Alisson Becker commits to Anfield despite Turkish interest

Liverpool’s pre-season blueprint continues to evolve with significant clarity on two fronts: a seismic midfield addition in Florian Wirtz, and a firm stance from Alisson Becker, who has turned down interest from Galatasaray.

Amid widespread speculation surrounding his future, Alisson has rejected a move to the Turkish Super Lig champions. According to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Galatasaray made what was described as a “concrete approach” for the Brazil international. Their efforts, however, were swiftly rebuffed by the 32-year-old, who remains content on Merseyside.

“Personally, I have never been able to plan for the long term,” Alisson said earlier this month. “Obviously, I have one year left on my contract and another year of option from the club. They will probably exercise that option.

“I think about what I have in hand, about doing a great job, it is a decisive moment in my career, with a World Cup approaching. I want to be very focused, I don’t want any planning to get in the way of this great goal.”

Future stability around Alisson offers reassurance

In retaining Alisson, Liverpool are not only keeping a world-class goalkeeper but also maintaining consistency within a dressing room undergoing strategic transformation.

Despite having just 12 months left on his existing deal, the club holds an option to extend his contract by another year — a clause expected to be triggered. This decision, coupled with Alisson’s stated desire to focus on the short-term without distraction, ensures clarity heading into a crucial season that includes preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

His presence remains central to Liverpool’s defensive stability and leadership core. Given the market’s volatility for elite-level keepers, the decision to stay could be one of the club’s quietest yet most vital victories this summer.

Wellity Lucky close to signing new contract

Beyond first-team headlines, Liverpool’s academy operations continue to churn with promising news. Wellity Lucky, the 19-year-old Spanish centre-back, is on the verge of signing a new four-year contract with the club.

Having joined the Reds at under-13 level, Lucky has progressed steadily and attracted interest from other sides. However, Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool are now close to finalising terms to keep him at Anfield.

The move reflects the club’s intent to secure its promising youth assets while reshaping the senior squad. Lucky’s continued development could yet play a key role in Liverpool’s future defensive options, especially given the current transitions at centre-half.
