Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League journey ended in the Round of 16 as they were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain. The Reds lost 1-0 at home in the second leg courtesy of an Ousmane Dembélé goal. This result leveled the tie at 1-1 on aggregate, following Liverpool’s 1-0 victory in Paris last week.

In the resulting penalty shootout, PSG converted all four of their spot-kicks, while only Mohamed Salah found the net for Liverpool. Darwin Núñez and Curtis Jones missed their attempts, sealing Liverpool’s fate.

Here are the six key takeaways from the match:

1. Alisson brilliant again but couldn’t deliver in the shootout

Liverpool’s Brazilian goalkeeper once again stood out as one of the team’s best performers. He made seven crucial saves throughout the match, keeping his side in contention. Liverpool also had moments of luck, as PSG came close to scoring on multiple occasions but missed by the narrowest of margins.

Alisson was unfortunate to concede the only goal of the game. When Bradley Barcola sent in a cross, Ibrahima Konaté attempted to clear the ball before Alisson could reach it. However, the deflection sent the ball into Dembélé’s path, allowing the Frenchman to score with ease.

Despite this setback, Alisson continued to showcase his exceptional positioning and awareness, stopping several PSG attacks. However, in the penalty shootout, while his counterpart Gianluigi Donnarumma managed to save two spot-kicks, Alisson was unable to deny a single one, ultimately proving costly for Liverpool.
