Former Benfica midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa was stranded for hours en route to the 25 de Abril Bridge after a serious accident left one person dead and badly disrupted the Almada to Lisbon carriageway, creating long tailbacks. According to Glorioso 1904, he described the standstill on social media while taking his children to school.
He said that exactly two and a half hours after setting off, they were still in the same place.
Fejsa added they had not even reached the bridge, let alone crossed it, and that there would be no class that day.
In a pointed aside about mobility in the capital, he remarked that such a wonderful and perfect city has only two bridges, and that traffic could neither move forward nor turn back.
Fejsa spent the longest spell of his career at Benfica, scoring two goals in 169 appearances across six full seasons. At the club he won five league titles, two Taças de Portugal and three Supertaças, accounting for 10 of the 23 trophies he lifted in total.
