Atletico Madrid were broadly satisfied with their display after a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League semi-final first leg at the Metropolitano, acknowledging the fightback from a goal down but regretting the missed chance to take an advantage to London.
Julian Alvarez equalised from the spot and Antoine Griezmann was named man of the match. “My biggest dream is to reach the final. I’ve prepared a lot for this match and the second leg, and hopefully we can achieve it.”
Griezmann admitted he lacked sharpness in front of goal, a point echoed by Marcos Llorente. “Everything’s still up for grabs in the second leg. They took the first half and we took the second. That’s what we have to take away from this. We’ve made things very difficult for them,” he told MD.
Goalkeeper Jan Oblak backed the decision not to award Arsenal a second penalty after a VAR review. “Intense game from both teams, we were looking for three points, them as well. I think we did a pretty good game, but 1-1 two penalties, all to play for in London. Everything is open,” he told TNT Sports.
Oblak underlined what it will take at the Emirates. “We all have to play a perfect game on Tuesday if we want to reach the final.”
