Kendry Paez was once the youngster Chelsea fans were most excited about, but things are not going well for him, and there’s bad injury news today.
There was a lot of expectation around Kendry Paez when Chelsea agreed to sign him way back in June 2023. The wonderkid had broken into the Independiente del Valle team and was soon picking up Ecuador caps despite his ridiculously young age.
Things haven’t gone as well since then. His form had already tailed off a little before leaving South America this summer, and his loan at Strasbourg was a disaster. He has since returned to his home continent to join River Place, and unfortunately for him things haven’t started well there either.

Paez made his debut as a sub on the 12th of February, and made his second appearance off the bench last weekend. Sadly, it looks like it will be his last for while. After just 25 minutes on the pitch, he picked up a shoulder injury which will apparently keep him out for “two to four weeks.”
It’s the last thing he needs – another false start. We hope he can get fit, get playing, get his head right, and start fulfilling some of his huge potential. This loan can potentially be a good one, but only if he’s able to play regularly.
The race for the top 5 is going to be so tight now, and Gary Lineker’s take on the final lineup is rather interesting for Chelsea fans…
In his post match interview, Trevoh Chalobah pointed to another one of this team’s big flaws – their inability to score their chances and put games away.
