A Bordeaux collective of local investors and former players has assembled about five million euros in firm commitments, positioning itself as a fallback if Girondins de Bordeaux are placed into liquidation after Wednesday afternoon’s CNOSF hearing.
According to L'Équipe, the group says it stands ready only to keep the club alive should that scenario arise, while giving full backing to the ongoing rescue process.
That process involves four investors, the Briton James Bord of Park Bench, Felix Roemer, the American Evan Sofer, and the Englishman Jeremy Green, founder and portfolio manager of Redmile Group, LLC, an investment firm specialising in healthcare.
The collective stresses it does not seek to replace that deal, which it views as the only route for Bordeaux to retain their standing.
If the Bordeaux commercial court were to open liquidation proceedings, the group would aim to relaunch the club debt free, with a 100 percent local anchor, progressive rebuilding and responsible local governance.
The initiative brings together regional entrepreneurs, notably from tech, alongside former Bordeaux players spanning the last 50 years, plus other footballers who feel a bond with the area.
Athletes from other sports, including motor racing, have also joined in recent weeks. One project figure said the commitments would be placed in escrow if the CNOSF delivers an unfavourable opinion, which could be a first step towards liquidation.
