Loïc Féry, the Lorient president, is not expected to attend Wednesday’s Coupe de France quarter-final against Nice, as he remains stuck in Abu Dhabi after strikes on the United Arab Emirates. His return to France is not anticipated before the end of the week.

Féry had travelled to the UAE for his company’s annual seminar in Abu Dhabi. He arrived on Thursday evening, then on Saturday morning Iranian strikes targeting the country began.

"It is unpleasant to be stuck but we do not feel in immediate danger," he told Ouest-France.

He is confined to a hotel with seven colleagues. "We regularly hear the anti-missile systems hitting. Debris from intercepted devices is falling."

The airports in Abu Dhabi and Dubai were hit, prompting the suspension of many flights. "Some flights are due to resume on a limited basis. As things stand, our return is planned for Friday or Saturday. So I will not be at the Coupe de France match on Wednesday, Lorient v Nice. But given the humanitarian context, it is nothing."
