Loïc Rémy to train with Brest

Without a club since last summer, France striker Loïc Rémy (36) will train with Stade Brestois. First of all, to keep in shape, but perhaps with a view to joining Les Pirates in their battle against the drop...

France striker Loïc Rémy (30 caps, seven goals) was present in the stands during Brest's Coupe de France defeat to Lens on Sunday evening, sat next to the sporting director Gregory Lorenzi, and he will be training with Brest over the next few days. Quid pro quo

This was announced by Brest boss Eric Roy, who knows Rémy well from the time they spent together at OGC Nice. "He will complement his preparations with us, as he has been training alone," said the man who took over in the Brest dugout two weeks ago. "And for us, that will be one more player in training, while we have a few injuries between Romain [Del Castillo], Mathias [Pereira-Lage], Brendan [Chardonnet] but also Noah Fadiga [hip]." A deal in the works?

Rémy, 36,  has been without a club since last summer and the end of his adventure with Adana Demirspor (Turkey), which came at the end of a high-calibre career at Olympique Lyonnais, Nice, Marseille, QPR, Newcastle, Chelsea and LOSC. Could his training with Brest lead to a contract with the Brittany club? Roy - whose side sit in 18th place, embroiled in a relegation dog-fight - couldn't rule it out, even if that's not the main idea behind the arrangement. "If Loïc brings the house down," added Roy, "you never know."

Stade Brestois 29's next outing is their Ligue 1 Uber Eats R20 clash at home to bottom club Angers, which could prove decisive in both sides' fortunes this season.
