WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media update from The Pride this afternoon.
The 36-year-old Swedish international suffered her injury during the second half of London City Lionesses’ Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at West Ham United on Sunday afternoon. Asllani left the field in significant pain in the final minutes of the game. The contest ended 1-1 with Jana Fernández’s opener for London City Lionesses being cancelled out by Oona Siren’s second half strike.
Asllani’s injury has now been assessed and it has been revealed that she has sustained a ‘complex’ multi-ligament injury which includes a rupture of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The player will meet with a specialist later this week to determine the next course of action.
London City Lionesses are unable to put a timeframe on Asllani’s recovery at this stage, however, she is expected to be sidelined for several months.
London City Lionesses have three games remaining in their inaugural season in the Barclays Women’s Super League. They host Leicester City and Aston Villa either side of a trip to Tottenham Hotspur. The Pride currently occupy seventh place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
