Longoni criticises Milan for having ‘very little political weight’ after Bologna postponement | OneFootball

Despite intense conversations between AC Milan, Bologna and Lega Serie A, Saturday’s game was confirmed as postponed. It’s a decision that shows the Rossoneri’s lack of political weight, as argued by Andrea Longoni.

A decision by the Bologna mayor stopped the game in its tracks, but this decision was then backed up by the Bologna management in meetings with Lega Serie A. Milan tried to play the game elsewhere, or behind closed doors, but ultimately failed as a very questionable decision was confirmed.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, the journalist and pundit Andrea Longoni discussed the decision, highlighting how no one thought to think of Milan. Bologna were favoured and president Paolo Scaroni, at the end of the day, failed to make the most of his connections.

“These have been bitter days, with Milan not taking the field and earning an asterisk in the standings. Maximum solidarity with Bologna and its people, but the match could, or rather should have been played peacefully in another stadium. The truth is that the Rossoblu did not want to give up the revenue guaranteed by a marquee match: the club protected its accounts.

“While no one protected Milan. The Lega Calcio did not, from the clear desire on Thursday night to have the match played on a neutral field, to passing Bologna’s line. Despite a terribly busy calendar and without any useful dates before a lifetime.

“Milan were not even protected by its own management. With Scaroni, present in the Lega, in a few hours we went from “I do not deal with the issue” (said by the President, it’s a bit strange) to “We will play, behind closed doors or somewhere else”, to “In the face of the Mayor’s order we will lower our heads”.

“Demonstration of very little political weight. Another big club would have demanded the game be moved to another venue, rather than bow their heads. In addition to the extremely dangerous precedent that is being created, the damage is evident.

A decision is yet to be made on when the game will be played, but it’s clear that fans will have to wait for a long time. The schedule is incredibly tight for both clubs due to the Champions League, and this is also why the postponement has made life very difficult for the Rossoneri.
