LaLiga’s winter window was lean, with 44 arrivals and €74.9 million spent, up on last season yet far below 2017-18’s €288.2 million. According to AS, Atlético drove €54 million of that, while Real Madrid and Athletic signed no one.

Lookman was the standout, a €35 million buy delivering four goals and three assists in seven Atlético games. Since 1 January he has averaged 4.94 dribbles, 3.29 completed, and 5.49 touches in the box, and is tied down until 2030.

Celta’s business has landed. Fer López has started four straight in LaLiga and hit a screamer in Belgrade against Red Star in the Europa League, while Matías Vecino is easing in and Álvaro Núñez is still sidelined.

At Betis, Fidalgo cost €1.5 million despite an €8 million valuation and has stayed in the line-up since a Copa quarter-final run-out at Atlético. Villarreal’s €3.2 million right-back Freeman is bedding in with minutes across three matches, with Alfon only just debuting after injury.

Cancelo is edging into form. Used mainly at left-back by Flick amid competition from Balde and Gerard Martín, he supplied an assist and took MVP against Levante, and currently leads defenders in several attacking metrics and is second for successful crosses per 90.

Elsewhere, Girona’s Echeverri has been an impact option, ranking top among midfielders for offensive duels and successful ball progressions. Rayo’s Ilias leads forward metrics, Valencia saw Sadiq, Unai Núñez and Guido Rodríguez contribute, Maupay’s Sevilla form dipped after a debut goal, and Elche’s Gonzalo Villar has only 11 minutes on loan.
