Ademola Lookman will most likely leave Atalanta at the end of the season as a result of a previous promise. He has a couple of high-profile suitors in Serie A, but he’d be happy to head back to the Premier League, where he previously starred with Leicester City, Alfredo Pedullà informs.
The Atalanta management convinced him to stay, suggesting he’d be let go in 2025. Arsenal and Liverpool tracked him last year. The Gunners had proposed €50M and were willing to insert Jakub Kiwior in the deal. The Reds have re-upped with Mohamed Salah, so they might no longer be interested.
PSG came the closest to signing Lookman in 2024. Their chase prompted him to ask not to play in the first couple of games while the transfer market window was open. They acquired Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January, so they are unlikely to add further attackers.
Juventus and Napoli tested the waters in January, without following suit. Atalanta plan to cash in fully and demand about €60M, with some room to negotiate only on the bonuses.
The reports have been consistent for about a year, so it might be time for the split to happen. It doesn’t hurt that he’s been solid but not otherworldly this campaign. It could be a matter of timing, as, like in past summers, La Dea would not want to lose too many linchpins. They’d have a decision to make if they got big offers for Ederson and Mateo Retegui too. He’d be perfect for Napoli, but they might spread the dough rather than splurging for one player. The Bianconeri are more likely to do that, but they already have Kenan Yildiz.
