Stephen Eustáquio’s stock has risen after the 2026 World Cup. Los Angeles FC, where the 29-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan from Porto, did not take up a €6.3 million purchase option, yet the move is not off the table.
His goal sent Canada into the last 16, before they lost 3-0 to Morocco. “Nothing has been decided regarding his staying or leaving,” said LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington, speaking to LA Daily News. He joked, “It was not exactly my plan to prepare him to eliminate my home country at the World Cup, but that is how it is”, a reference to South Africa, who Canada eliminated.
He is due to report back at Olival amid interest from other clubs. Porto are calm about how the process will unfold.
His contract with the Portuguese club runs to the end of next season. Without a renewal, he can agree a free move in January.
All scenarios remain on the table and the board are clear they will find a solution to suit everyone. The midfielder’s professionalism and seriousness are viewed as a guarantee that there will be no issues.
