Jamal Musiala suffered a shocking injury during Bayern Munich’s 0-2 quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup on Saturday.

With Bayern now out of the tournament, Thomas Müller’s legendary time at the club has come to an end, with the 35-year-old out of contract. However, former Bayern and Germany star Lothar Matthäus believes Musiala’s injury could be a reason to reconsider Müller's future.

Matthäus suggests that Müller could remain with Bayern for another six months before completing his expected move to the United States.

“Jamal Musiala’s injury completely shocked me, especially since he had just fought his way back into the starting lineup. I wish him nothing but the best,” Matthäus told Bild.

“FC Bayern should now consider offering Thomas Müller another six-month contract. The MLS season in the USA doesn’t start until later, and meanwhile, Müller could provide valuable experience and leadership for Bayern. They did something similar with me when I moved to the New York MetroStars. The fans would certainly appreciate it, too.”

Matthäus also believes that Musiala’s injury could influence Bayern’s pursuit of VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade.

“The Musiala situation will likely affect the negotiations for Nick Woltemade. The Stuttgart player can fill the role Musiala occupies. Bayern needs this Germany U21 star more than ever. For the wing positions, a smaller transfer solution might now be enough.”

According to reports, Bayern have agreed personal terms with Woltemade, but remain far apart from Stuttgart on the transfer fee, with a gap of around €30 million between the clubs' valuations.
