Lazio president Claudio Lotito’s viral phone call with a supporter on the eve of Tuesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against Atalanta featured fierce criticism of Maurizio Sarri and Marco Baroni. According to Tuttosport, his remarks risked inflaming tensions at a club already under strain.

The first leg finished 2-2, leaving the tie finely poised for the return meeting.

In a ten-minute exchange, Lotito insisted the club belongs to him rather than Sarri and said Sarri could buy it if he wanted ownership. He added that a good coach should use the players at his disposal.

He cited Taty Castellanos as barely used before a €30 million sale, and said Guendouzi was deployed in a back three, becoming so frustrated he forced his exit. He noted that Noslin and Belahyane were blocked from leaving but seldom play.

Lotito warned that without the right dressing-room chemistry, people make their feelings known. He also targeted Baroni, calling him “that idiot” and blaming him for the Europa League exit to Bodo/Glimt, alleging he asked an injured Castellanos to take a decisive penalty.

With pressure growing on Sarri, the fallout from Lotito’s outburst looks likely to linger.
