Many fans are furious with recent transfer business, with prized assets sold and cheaper options brought in while key issues persist. They have urged Lotito to end his 22-year reign, but he remains defiant and keeps planning ahead.

He acknowledged dissent, saying it deserves respect and forms part of the club’s passion. He added that some of his words can be interpreted differently and that supporters may ask questions, and that he intends to answer with facts.

Whether these moves change the mood remains to be seen. Organised groups may continue to boycott matches at the Stadio Olimpico. Club figures hope other Biancocelesti supporters attend Saturday’s league meeting with Atalanta after playing in an almost empty stadium against Genoa two weeks ago.
