FC Barcelona played a Champions League game against Club Brugge last night, securing a single point after a 3-3 draw with the Belgian side.

Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal were on the scoresheet for the Catalan club, with the third recorded as an own goal. Fermin Lopez produced a couple of sublime assists to continue his good form.

Much has been made of Lamine’s slump in form in recent weeks. His performance, especially in the Clasico, came under heavy flak, given his bold comments before the game.

After the display against Brugge, the teenage sensation hit back at his critics, labelling the allegations against him as lies. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he said:

“There’s been a lot of talk about my pubalgia, about me being sad, and it was all lies. I was the same as always—very happy, focused on my work, trying to get back and play at this level, which is when I feel best and enjoy myself the most.”

Lamine was then asked about the world-class goal he scored, but he expressed disappointment at not securing the three points. He said:

“I just try to do the best I can. It was a very quick play, Fermín gave it to me with a backheel and I finished well, but I’m left with the fact that we couldn’t get the win. Hopefully next time we will. We wanted the win and the three points. It’s a very tough stadium. It’s true that we’re Barça and we always have to win, but now we’re focused on the next league match. We knew they were a good team, especially at home. It’s very hard to win when you concede three goals—that’s what we need to improve and what we’re already thinking about.”

These words showcase Lamine Yamal’s mentality. He is less concerned with his individual performances than with the team winning, which is the sign of a world-class footballer in the making.

It all comes down to what the future holds for Lamine. The hope is that he puts his injury issues behind him and plays at the highest level. Let us wait and see how things play out.
