Hull's move for the Aston Villa youngster is now seemingly in tatters.
Louie Barry's permanent move to Hull City is now under serious threat of falling through, leaving the door open to other potential Championship bidders.
Having reportedly agreed a deal with Aston Villa to buy the talented youngster from them for £3.5 million, Hull are now set to miss out on the chance to sign Barry.
According to The Athletic, issues with the "affordability" of the deal, which was also said to include a 50 per cent sell-on clause in Villa's favour, has caused a major problem, and they may now struggle to meet the terms of the agreement as well as pay Barry's wages, as per the online outlet.
The winger was sent out on loan to the MKM Stadium in January after a mightily impressive spell in League One with Stockport County that saw him score 15 goals in 23 league games, but his spell with the Tigers was cut short after just four games due to injury.
He had plenty of clubs interested in him then, and this latest news should reignite that desire to sign the 22-year-old from a few clubs.
Football League World identifies three Championship clubs that should pounce on the Villa forward given this Hull City transfer twist.
One problem that any team looking to capitalise on Hull's broken-down deal for Barry is the terms that Villa agreed to.
They are obviously willing to let him go, but surely few teams will accept a deal on the terms that the Tigers initially did, especially with regard to the sell-on clause.
If any other suitors want to make a deal for Barry that doesn't have a 50 per cent sell-on, the fee will inevitably go up. For a team like Birmingham, however, that shouldn't be a huge issue.
The high-flying returnees to the Championship are yet to actually do any official business this summer with regard to incomings, although the loan signing of goalkeeper James Beadle from Brighton is expected to be confirmed sooner than later.
Improving their options on the wing has been a real focus for Birmingham, and they are on the verge of signing former academy member Demarai Gray from Al-Ettifaq.
The addition of Barry, who they were previously interested in, as per FLW's sister publication GIVEMESPORT, would further reinforce their options in wide areas.
He'd add even more of a goal threat from the left, on top of what Keshi Anderson already offers, and bring even more strength in depth to Chris Davies' side.
Narrowly missing out on a spot in the play-off final and, therefore, a chance to win promotion to the Premier League has put Coventry in the position where they're at risk of losing some of their top players.
Haji Wright, Frank Lampard's star left-winger, attracted interest from Ipswich Town and Leicester City while they were in the Premier League.
There's every chance that this interest remains, and the Sky Blues could lose the American attacker. What better option to replace him with than Barry?
While being very different players in stature and build, their instincts aren't that dissimilar. They both like to cut in off the left-wing and cause problems by driving inside towards the defence.
Even if Wright were to stay put this summer, Barry would provide him with great competition. Plus, he wouldn't have to move that far from his current base at Villa.
There is no doubting that Norwich have been doing a lot of work to make sure that their new boss, Liam Manning, is well-supported in his first window in charge at Carrow Road.
They have made a host of new additions already this summer, with plenty of scope for others to arrive too.
Like Coventry, though, they are under threat of losing some of their top attacking talent. Both Borja Sainz and Josh Sargent are being looked at by teams across Europe.
Norwich rejected a £12.7 million bid for the Spaniard from Porto, while German side Wolfsburg are the latest club to be linked with Sargent.
Either player will command a pretty serious fee, certainly enough to cover what Villa may ask for Barry, who could be that ideal, versatile forward player who can help fill the void that could be left by those two potential big-name departures.
