Kicker and Moselle TV report that 56-year-old Luxembourger Luc Holtz is expected to become FC Metz head coach in Ligue 2 next season.
Metz had already pursued him in January, and again in 2017, as they target an immediate return to the top flight following relegation.
The former Luxembourg manager, in charge from 2010 to 2025, announced his departure from Waldhof Mannheim on 23 May after a cup final win. He had joined the German third-tier club in August.
Mannheim reached an agreement with Metz in late May to release Holtz from his contract and is said to have already lined up a replacement for next season. He said the Metz offer remained a possibility and nothing had been decided.
Although no deal has been signed, his arrival is said to be close after a brief period of reflection. Metz are said to be planning a press presentation at the end of the week and are already moving to assemble a squad aimed at promotion.
