Valencia forward Lucas Beltrán, out for the past three matches, is progressing well in his recovery and edging closer to a return.
The squad had a second rest day on Tuesday before preparations for Real Oviedo. Some players still trained individually at Paterna, including José Gayà, Arnaut Danjuma, Copete and Beltrán, and, according to Radio Marca, the Argentine worked intensively on the pitch with a reconditioning coach, did ball work and undertook high-load exercises to gauge his condition.
The session represented an important step forward, with positive signs noted as he moves towards completing his recovery.
Whether he makes the squad for the trip to the Tartiere remains unknown. His progress over the next four days will be decisive.
Even if he is fully fit in time, it would be hard to see him start after more than three weeks sidelined.
Before the setback, Beltrán had been a regular for Carlos Corberán in the attacking midfield role and one of the team’s standouts. Since then, Javi Guerra has filled that spot in a midfield three, with Ramazani operating freely behind the centre forward.
Recent positive results do not point to changes in system or starters in the short term, although Beltrán’s pre-injury form was among Valencia’s best in attack. Corberán now has another selection puzzle to solve.
