Newcastle United remain interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall, according to The Daily Mail.

Spurs are holding out for a fee in excess of £50 million after the Magpies tested their resolve earlier in the summer with a bid of around £46m, which was immediately turned down.

Newcastle are continuing to monitor the ‘unstoppable‘ 20-year-old as they look to revamp their midfield.

Bergvall’s uncertain status at Tottenham stems from his desire for guaranteed playing time.

After joining Spurs from Swedish club Djurgardens in 2024, Bergvall enjoyed a productive debut season.

He made 45 appearances in all competitions and helped Tottenham win the Europa League in 2025.

However, his game time dropped significantly towards the end of last season under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Bergvall started just once in Tottenham’s last seven matches, playing only 112 minutes in total.

Competition for places has intensified even further this summer following the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

With his pathway to regular football increasingly blocked, Bergvall has informed Tottenham he wants to leave in search of first-team opportunities.

Spurs hold a commanding position in negotiations, with Bergvall committing to the club last year by signing a long-term contract until June 2031.

Tottenham are under no financial or contractual pressure to sell and have set a high asking price.

Having already rejected a £38m approach from Nottingham Forest and Newcastle’s £46m bid, Spurs look set to hold out for their full valuation if a move is to be sanctioned.

While Newcastle are still admirers of Bergvall, Forest are also expected to return with an improved offer before the summer transfer window closes.
