Lucas Digne is at his second World Cup, 12 years after his first in Brazil, and has reverted to a back-up role. Tipped to start on the left of the defence against Iraq, he could yet change the narrative.

According to Le Progres, the question now is whether a rare start can help him reverse the trend.

Some memories may have faded, but a Maracanã outing is hard to forget. On 25 June 2014, against Ecuador, Digne made his World Cup debut.

That first taste, at 20, seemed set to lead to many more. He did not imagine a gap of nearly 12 years before a similar stage returned.

That could change on Monday, offering a chance to step back into the light if he is selected.
