Lucas Digne is set to return to former club Paris Saint-Germain after his release clause was activated.

The Aston Villa defender first joined PSG from Lille back in the summer of 2013, eventually featuring 44 times for the club before leaving for Barcelona in 2016.

Now, 12 years later the 32-year-old is set to return to the French capital with Fabrizio Romano reporting that PSG will pay his release clause, which is valued at under £10 million.

There is now a verbal agreement for the player who featured 44 times for the Villans last season, making eight assists. The former Everton man is currently on international duty with France at the World Cup, having made four tournament appearances so far.

Digne is the second Villa player to have his release clause activated today with Manchester United also moving to sign midfielder Youri Tielemans.
