Lucas Paquetá to sign for Flamengo, five short of 100 games

Flamengo announced the signing of Lucas Paquetá on Wednesday. The midfielder is due in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday to sign, and is close to a century of appearances for the club.

A Flamengo youth product, Paquetá moved up to the first team in 2016 and departed in January 2019. He played 95 matches in that first stint, leaving him five short of 100.

In those 95 games he registered 18 goals and eight assists. His honours include the Carioca in 2017 and the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior in 2016.

Paquetá is set to sign a five-year contract. The transfer is valued at 42 million euros, R$ 260 million, with part paid upfront and instalments scheduled until 2028.

Flamengo now turn to their next fixture, against São Paulo at MorumBIS. Kick-off is 21h30, Brasília time, in the first round of the Brasileirão.
