Lucas Piccinato has set out how he will manage Corinthians’ squad after a relentless start to 2026, stressing fitness, chemistry and selection based on form.
Corinthians opened on 28 January in England at the Copa das Campeãs, beating Gotham FC 1-0. They then faced Arsenal on 1 February in the final, losing 3-2 after extra time.
Back in Brazil on 7 February they met Palmeiras in the Supercopa, drawing in normal time before a 5-4 defeat on penalties. “We made a decision at the start of the season, mainly because of the weight of the first three games, to keep one team together and build understanding,” he said, speaking to Tikitaka Sports.
With a partially changed line-up, Corinthians began the Brasileiro on Friday at Atlético Mineiro and won 1-0 thanks to midfielder Letícia Monteiro. “Now the Brasileiro is starting, a longer competition, I think rotation will be a bit greater. It is about understanding who is better physically and what each player can deliver.”
Colombian midfielder Paola García debuted in the same match, replacing Vic Albuquerque on 40 minutes. “Paola had a great season last year with Deportivo Cali and caught our attention in the Libertadores. She had five minutes, was active, and, as she adapts, will help us a lot.”
Corinthians host Fluminense at Neo Química Arena on Friday 20 at 21:30 in round two of the Brasileiro.
