Lucas Radebe signs up for new role with the Leeds United Foundation | OneFootball

Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe has joined Ethan Ampadu and others in a new role at Elland Road.

The former defender, who made 260 appearances for the Whites, has been made an official Ambassador for the club’s charitable wing, the Leeds United Foundation.

Radebe is already an Ambassador for the football club, first taking on that responsibility last season. On many of his trips to the UK from his native South Africa, the Chief has supported the work of the club’s charity, visiting schools and programmes to spend time with those involved.

Frances Milner, CEO for Leeds United Foundation, said: “We are delighted to recognise Leeds United Legend Lucas Radebe as an Ambassador for the Leeds United Foundation. Lucas's work with the Foundation over the past year and his ability to inspire young and old across our programmes has been incredible. His humility, kindness, and leadership in working with our beneficiaries has already made such a difference to so many.

“Lucas joins our current Ambassadors Ethan Ampadu, Eddie Gray, Tony Dorigo and Bridie Hannon, all of whom generously give their time to support the Foundation.

“We want to thank all of our ambassadors for everything they do each year to support our impactful work within the community and across the city.”

Radebe has previously been commended for his contribution to anti-racism campaigns and joining the fight for equality and inclusion. In 2000 he was given the FIFA Fair Play Award for that work.

Speaking last October on a school visit as part of the Premier League Primary Stars initiative alongside Gabriel Gudmundsson, Radebe spoke of his fondness for giving back to the local area.

“I think we might take this for granted, because as footballers we always seem to be a bit greedy," he said. "But I think most of us as well, we do care about our communities, about our kids, and we do understand and appreciate the fans. And I think once we get the opportunity like this, that's when we can show the care, the love that we've had and as well, the opportunity to say thank you for the support for all these years. It's absolutely great for us to be able to do this kind of thing."
