According to Diario Do Peixe, Lucas Veríssimo landed in São Paulo on Thursday night to report to Santos and wants to be considered for Sunday’s clássico against Corinthians. The match is part of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.

The centre-back had been in Qatar and struggled to leave because of airspace restrictions linked to instability in the Middle East. After days of uncertainty and waiting for available flights, he finally travelled and arrived in Brazil.

At the airport he said he feels ready and hopes to feature in the sixth round, with kick-off at 16:00 at Vila Belmiro. He maintained match fitness while waiting, training alone, and believes he has not lost rhythm, though he will leave the assessment to the staff.

The coaching staff led by Juan Pablo Vojvoda had been awaiting his arrival. Veríssimo has joined for around R$ 25 million, to be paid in annual instalments, and is viewed as a key addition to strengthen the defence.

A decision on his involvement will follow initial sessions with the squad at CT Rei Pelé. There are two further training sessions before the match.
