Luciano Spalletti urges Juventus to add midfielder as injuries bite

Luciano Spalletti has urged Juventus to bring in a midfielder before the window shuts after a mounting injury crisis, despite a 2-0 win over Parma.

“If the situation for Thuram is confirmed, then we need a player in midfield. Our directors had organised a logical and interesting approach, but that has gone, so they will seek out an alternative,” he told DAZN.

The push is driven by concern over Khephren Thuram’s knee. The Frenchman has worked away from the main group for much of the summer and may need surgery to address a persistent patellofemoral syndrome from his final months in France. He will fly to Lyon early next week to see Bertrand Sonnery Cottet, who previously operated on Gleison Bremer and Federico Gatti, and the outcome will shape Juventus’ late-window plan.

Market options have also slipped away, with a move for Franck Kessie not materialising. Andrea Cambiaso was withdrawn after a knock against Parma, while Kenan Yildiz faces two to three months out with a fractured metatarsal and Weston McKennie is also sidelined.

“We played a very serious game, with purpose and quality. I’d be happy to stay like this; the problem is that we weren’t precise enough to cause more problems.”
