Tyrell Malacia is seeking clarity over his Manchester United future after entering the final five months of his contract.

According to Samuel Luckhurst, the full-back ‘could still leave’ before the February 2 deadline after generating interest from a host of clubs – none of which take his fancy, as things stand.

This week, Malacia will meet with newly-appointed interim manager Michael Carrick to discuss his situation and gauge whether he’s likely to be utilised from now until the end of the season.

However, with it now expected that Carrick will line up his 11 with four at the back, the Dutch international will rank behind both Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu in the pecking order, while Diogo Dalot has also previously deputised on the left-hand side.

Malacia returned from an 18-month injury layoff in November 2024 and featured eight times for Ruben Amorim before being shipped out on loan to PSV Eindhoven in the winter window.

He finished his spell with an Eredivisie winners’ medal to his name, but PSV opted against making him a permanent member of their squad.

Malacia has been something of an outcast at Carrington since the summer

When the 26-year-old returned to Carrington, he formed one-fifth of Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’, all of whom were angling for summer transfers and were made to train away from the first team.

Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho all secured their desired moves elsewhere, while Malacia failed to seal a deal in time – despite being on the verge of joining Spanish Elche and being heavily linked with a move to Turkey before their deadline.

He consequently stayed put at Old Trafford for the beginning of the current campaign, but has played only once in a two-minute cameo in the closing stages of the Reds’ Boxing Day home win over Newcastle United.

Back in 2022, Malacia became the first signing of Erik ten Hag’s reign when he joined from Feyenoord in a £14.7 million deal.
