Levante head coach Luis Castro aimed a pointed remark at Villarreal over post-match time off after his side’s 5-1 defeat at La Cerámica, a result that confirmed their qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Previewing Friday’s meeting with Osasuna, he said he expects a very intense opponent and cited Villarreal’s approach against Levante. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he framed the match as another final for his team.
Castro claimed Villarreal handed their players four days off after beating Levante, something he said the club had never previously done. In reality the break was three days, with training resuming on Wednesday after reaching that objective.
Reviewing the match, he argued the display did not warrant such a heavy scoreline. He said the first goal can happen and that Villarreal were not causing real damage at that point, adding the second was not normal for his side.
At 3-1, Brugui struck the post and Etta’s header was saved, while injuries also played a part. Castro said the task now is to beat Osasuna to keep fighting for their objective.
