Nantes head coach Luis Castro has been relieved of his duties this Wednesday, according to Ouest-France and L’Equipe. The Portuguese was hanging by a thread following Les Canaris‘ defeat on Saturday against Lens at home (1-2). Nantes’ latest loss left them in the relegation zone, on level points with bottom-placed Metz.
Nantes have only won two games this season – against Auxerre and Paris FC – out of a possible 15, a meagre output given Castro’s blossoming reputation following his stint with USL Dunkerque. According to Ouest-France, Nantes have moved quickly to find a successor, and the latter could be Ahmed Kantari. Antoine Kombouaré’s former deputy assistant coach works a pundit for Ligue 1’s in-house TV channel. Nantes will play Angers away this Friday for Ligue 1’s Mathday 16.
