Another controversy has emerged regarding Dani Olmo’s injury, with Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente once again offering a version of events that differs from the official statement issued by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

After Spain’s recent match against Georgia, De la Fuente discussed Olmo’s condition during the post-match press conference.

“Dani was in perfect condition. There was no medical report, and he simply had a small discomfort,” he began as quoted by SPORT.

“He hadn’t trained all week, thinking that the evolution would be better, but finally the discomfort increased and we decided, for his health and safety, that he would leave the concentration, knowing that he was hardly going to be for Tuesday.

“If we had been certain that he could be without risk, as we always do, he would have stayed,” said De la Fuente.

What did the report say?

Interestingly, the RFEF issued a medical statement that presented a slightly different picture of Olmo’s condition.

According to the official report, “The player arrived last Monday at the training camp with signs of muscle fatigue as reported by FC Barcelona.

“Since then, the symptoms have been improving little by little with treatment and dosage of loads.

“So today it was planned that the striker would exclusively do part of the scheduled training where he has referred to muscle discomfort in his left leg.”

Impact on Barcelona

The mixed messages put both Olmo and Barcelona in a difficult position. Olmo returned to Barcelona on Saturday and will undergo new tests on Monday to determine the severity of his left calf injury.

Early estimates suggest he could be sidelined for three to four weeks, which raises concerns for Hansi Flick ahead of upcoming La Liga fixtures.

For Barcelona, the uncertainty around Olmo’s availability adds pressure on the squad, especially as the team continues to manage multiple injuries.

Understandably, they are extremely unhappy with the national team setup regarding the handling of their players.
