Luis Díaz backs “special” teammate Harry Kane for Ballon d’Or | OneFootball

In an exclusive interview with DFL (Bundesliga), Luis Díaz backs his FC Bayern teammate Harry Kane for the Ballon d’Or. Both players are in the 30-man nomination list released by the organizers last week.

“I can’t find the perfect word to describe Kane,” Díaz told Bundesliga. “He’s had such a great year. And even before then, he was showing he’s one of the best players in the world. He showed it the year before.

“For me, he’s number one to win the Ballon d’Or. Hopefully he gets it. We’re trying to make his case to win it. Lots of luck to Him.”

The 29-year-old winger also shared his delight in making the shortlist ahead of next month’s event. “It’s something extra, because not many get the chance to be nominated. It’s really special for me. I’ll remember it forever and throughout my career. Obviously it makes me proud to be on that list.”

Díaz is not the only player born in Colombia on the list heavily affected by the World Cup. Mexican international Julián Quiñones makes the shortlist after finishing top scorer in the Saudi Pro League and scoring four goals in the global event.

“I shared a dressing room with Quiñones in Colombia’s U20s. We played in the South American Championship. I met him there and got to know him well. He was a great guy, a hard worker and valiant. I think he could play in any league since he’s got what you need to be in a top team.”

Back to his Bayern teammates, Díaz named two players he was impressed by the most since his move to the Bundesliga. “Who’s impressed me most? I’d say Harry (Kane). For me, Harry is special. I already knew him. We faced each other in England several times. I already knew he scored a lot of goals, but sharing every day with him, seeing how he trains, seeing the mentality he has. That impressed me more. I feel like he does everything perfectly.

“I think he was the person who surprised me the most, alongside Michael (Olise). Michael surprised me a huge amount as well, mostly because of his quality and the way he plays, what he does with the ball, and how calm he is. We’ve created a great group up front and at the back. We work as a team at the moment. That’s what makes Bayern special.”
