Liverpool’s pursuit of silverware this season has been fuelled by Mohamed Salah’s brilliance, but questions over his long-term future refuse to go away. With his contract set to expire in the summer, teammate Luis Díaz has voiced what many at Anfield are thinking—Salah must stay.
With 23 goals and 14 assists in just 25 Premier League games, Salah remains Liverpool’s beating heart. His influence has helped Arne Slot’s side surge seven points clear at the summit, and with a Carabao Cup final and Champions League knockout rounds on the horizon, the possibility of a famous treble looms large.
Yet, uncertainty clouds the season’s narrative. Salah’s contract is winding down, and interest from the Saudi Pro League lingers. For Díaz, there’s only one logical outcome: the Egyptian staying put.
“I’ve said it before. They are super important for us,” Díaz told Telemundo. “It’s up to the club, but hopefully they’ll stay because what they bring to the team is impressive. What they have done, what they have won. They don’t settle for little.”

Liverpool’s hierarchy faces a pivotal decision. Salah remains one of the world’s most devastating forwards, and his departure would leave a gaping void. While the club has successfully transitioned from previous icons, replacing a player of this magnitude—especially when he continues to deliver at elite levels—is an unenviable task.
Salah’s professionalism and hunger are beyond doubt. “Mo is a player who is always trying to improve, he is always assisting and scoring, and he’s happy. He’s trying to give his best to the team,” Díaz continued. “Whether they leave on a high note or stay to make history, I’m glad to be sharing these moments with them.”
If Liverpool are to maintain their status at the pinnacle of European football, retaining their best players must remain a priority. Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also face contract uncertainty, adding further weight to the club’s summer decisions.
Despite these external distractions, Liverpool’s squad remains focused. Díaz insists their mentality is locked on securing silverware rather than being consumed by transfer speculation.
“We try to focus on ourselves first because we know what’s at stake,” he said. “The manager also looks at each game and training session. We think about the opponent we’re going to face to counteract what they might do. It’s important to stay calm and keep adding points because there’s still a long way to go.”
As Liverpool prepare for their next challenge against Aston Villa, the club’s immediate priority remains clear—win football matches. But beyond this campaign, a defining summer awaits.
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, the idea of losing Salah in the summer is almost unthinkable. Yes, there is an inevitability about squad evolution, but Salah’s form is still among the very best in the world. Players capable of delivering 37 goal contributions in 25 games do not come around often.
Díaz’s plea is more than just admiration for a teammate—it’s a reflection of what Liverpool supporters feel. If Salah were to leave, who could realistically replace him?
Liverpool’s owners must act decisively. They have already shown a willingness to reshape the squad, but allowing Salah to walk away for nothing would be a costly oversight. While a long-term strategy must be in place, the short-term reality is clear—Salah staying at Anfield increases Liverpool’s chances of winning major honours.
