Across the first seven LaLiga rounds, Luis García Plaza has scarcely used a group of eight Sevilla players, all under 100 minutes and three yet to appear, Zona Mixta reports.
That group comprises José Ángel Carmona, Rubén Vargas, Alfon, Manu Bueno, Julio Díaz, Fran González, Marcão and Fabio Cardoso, with situations that could shift in the coming weeks.
The most striking case is José Ángel Carmona. He was Sevilla’s third most‑used player last season, behind Odysseas and Lucien Agoumé, but Juan Iglesias’s arrival has reset his role. This term he has 63 minutes, no starts, and three outings off the bench against Athletic Club, RCD Espanyol and FC Barcelona.
Rubén Vargas and Alfon are rebuilding after disrupted pre‑seasons. Vargas joined late after the World Cup, amid uncertainty over his future and some fitness issues, and has played 20 minutes against Rayo Vallecano.
Alfon also missed a full build‑up due to injury, totalling 21 minutes across cameos against Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona. Both are using the break to sharpen up before Levante.
Manu Bueno nearly left on deadline day after being told he was not initially in the plans, yet stayed and received a first‑team number. He has 27 minutes in two games and could use the Copa del Rey to stake a claim.
Julio Díaz has 83 minutes, while Fran González has yet to debut and may get his chance in the Copa, given the strong competition from Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Marção and Fabio Cardoso remained despite not featuring in the manager’s plans, and are still without minutes. In some decisions, Juan Iglesias and Iker Muñoz have been preferred. The next few weeks will reveal whether the hierarchy holds or minutes are spread.
