Luis Hemir cites Clermont Foot project after permanent Sunderland exit | OneFootball

Luis Hemir Semedo has ended his three-year Sunderland stay, joining Ligue 2 club Clermont Foot on a permanent deal, saying the club’s project convinced him.

According to Sunderland Echo, the 23-year-old arrived from Benfica in 2023 and made 23 appearances, including four starts, without scoring.

He spent recent seasons out on loan, first with Juventus Next Gen, scoring twice in 27 outings, then with Moreirense in Portugal, where he scored three times in 21 appearances.

His last senior appearance for Sunderland came as a late substitute in a 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat at Preston North End in August 2024, early in Regis Le Bris' tenure.

Sunderland confirmed his departure on Tuesday morning. In his first Clermont interview, Hemir said he quickly bought into the project and is eager to start, adding he loves scoring and hopes to help with goals.

Clermont director of football Karim Fradin said the forward has joined for the next three seasons, highlighting his eye for goal and scope to improve, and believes he can contribute while developing.
