In an interview with Téléfoot, Luka Modrić (39) has laid his cards on the table, expressing a desire to retire at Real Madrid.
Modrić has made 579 appearances for Los Blancos (43 goals, 93 assists) since joining from Tottenham Hotspur for €35m back in 2012. As the Croatian midfielder told Téléfoot, at the time of his move to the Bernabeu, there was interest from French club(s) at the time that he made the move to the Bernabeu, however, there was no doubt in his mind as soon as Real Madrid came to the table.
Having been there for nearly 13 years, Modrić now intends to see out his career at the club, at least that is his intention. “I want to retire at Real Madrid, that would be a dream for me,” he told Téléfoot.
He added, “We will see what happens. There are still lots of matches left and I need to focus on them.” The Croatian international’s current deal with Los Blancos expires at the end of the season. It depends if Real Madrid are also keen to extend the midfielder’s current deal.
Modrić, who turns 40 in September, has already stated that he wants to play until the FIFA World Cup in 2026. His intention is therefore to play next season, at the least. “At 39 years old, I am still hungry,” he said.
