Luka Modric is set to become a minority owner of Championship club Swansea City.
The Real Madrid midfielder has agreed a deal to become part of the club’s ownership group. Modric’s investment in Swansea will not impact his playing career, with the 39-year-old keen to continue playing for Real Madrid beyond this season.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed the news of Modric’s imminent investment in Swansea, who sit 12th in England’s second tier this season. It’s an intriguing move for Modric and Swansea, with the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner preparing for life post-football.
The Croatia captain has extensive experience of British football, having made 160 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur before his move to Real Madrid in 2013.
In Spain, Modric has cemented a reputation as one of the greatest midfielders of all time. He has won a joint-record six Champions League titles with Los Blancos.
His impending arrival at Swansea will start a new era in South Wales, where he will join the club’s new ownership group.
In November, Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan’s eight-year spell in charge Swansea City came to an end after they sold their majority shareholding to Andy Coleman, fellow shareholders Brett Cravatt and Nigel Morris and businessman Jason Cohen.
