Manchester United succumbed to a disappointing 2-4 defeat at the hands of Ruben Amorim’s AC Milan in Wroclaw on Saturday.

It was by far the team’s worst pre-season display, and the fact that it came so close to the Hull City game has the fanbase worried.

There were worrying signs in midfield, while quite a few of the attacking stars still lack rhythm and match sharpness.

Luke Shaw disasterclass

Yes, the Englishman completed 90 minutes, but that has more to do with the fact that he has no backup at the moment with academy graduate Harry Amass expected to depart.

match stats

The 31-year-old failed to make a single tackle, while he lost all his ground duels at the Tarczyński Arena.

Even worse, he was dribbled past twice, and defensively, he was a shambles and it almost looked as if he was just going through the motions (all stats via sofascore).

He lost the ball seven times, while failing to dribble past an opponent even once. He did not attempt any crosses.

INEOS need to sign Lewis Hall soon

On the ball, the England international was better, managing three key passes, while all of his long balls were successful.

It is clear that INEOS should sign a successor instead of a backup as the former Southampton star’s time should be up.

His injury record is poor, and despite being at the club for 12 years, Luke Shaw remains highly inconsistent. Maybe, signing a successor would be just the impetus the left-back needs to prove his worth.

Lewis Hall would be a major upgrade, but INEOS need to loosen their purse strings to get a deal over the line before the window slams shut.
