Tom Bradshaw netted on his return to Oakwell, and former Barnsley shot-stopper Luke Steele has reacted

Tom Bradshaw scored on his Oakwell return last Saturday in the entertaining 3-3 draw with AFC Wimbledon, and some of his former teammates from his first stint at the side have congratulated him.

The 33-year-old put the Tykes 2-0 up at the time, but Johnnie Jackson's side pegged them back almost immediately, and Bradshaw had to sit and watch from the bench as the away side went 3-2 up.

Luckily, Scott Banks was on hand to also score his first for the club this season after moving on loan from St Pauli towards the tail end of the recent winter transfer window to salvage a point.

It was a disappointing result, but Bradshaw didn't let that take away too much from his return to Oakwell, which he described in an Instagram post as "surreal."

"Incredible and surreal being back at Oakwell," wrote Bradshaw. "To score on my first game back was exactly what I wanted.

"Shame we couldn't get the win, but we move on to Tuesday. Thank you for the amazing reception ❤️ @barnsleyfc"

In the comments were several reactions from teammates past and present, but most notably Luke Steele, who spent six years at Oakwell between 2008 and 2014.

Peterborough United academy man and former Manchester United goalkeeper Luke Steele didn't actually share the pitch at Barnsley with Bradshaw, despite the two spending many years in South Yorkshire.

It was actually at Millwall during the 2019/20 campaign that the two shared the dressing room together. Bradshaw as the starting striker in his first full season at the Den, and Steele as the cup goalkeeper on loan from Nottingham Forest.

However, the two must have bonded over Barnsley, as he was present in the comments of Bradshaw's latest Instagram post.

"I got one today too @tombradshaw9 lobbed the keeper from 45 yards! Centre back was a Barnsley fan so I went easy on him! Enjoy your time back 👏👏," he said.

Steele, a goalkeeper throughout his entire professional career, now plays as a striker for YDP, a team formed from the Youth Dreams Project he co-founded in 2014. By the end of last month, he had scored 20 times in 11 Peterborough District League games.

Perhaps a slight joke on his behalf, comparing Bradshaw's poacher's effort from inside the six-yard box to a 45-yard lob, but the sentiment is still there, and the well-wishes go to show how eager he is for his former teammate to succeed at Oakwell once more.

Steele was a popular figure at Barnsley throughout his time there, as he held down the number one shirt for the majority of their eight-year stay in the Championship between 2006 and 2014, departing the club upon their relegation.

And, despite Bradshaw's time at the club coming later, he still put in a good account for himself back in the Championship after a couple of years in the third tier.

While his return came in the wake of Davis Kiellor-Dunn's departure, and was slightly disappointing in that sense, the majority of Barnsley fans were pleased to see him back and were equally happy to see him score upon his return.

However, the reality right now is that the Tykes are way away from where they once were when the likes of Steele played for them and when Bradshaw was in his first spell at the club.
