The 23-year-old has forged a reputation as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga, with his ball-playing from deep attracting admiring glances from England.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are all open to signing a left-sided centre-back in the summer, and the former’s recruitment team have provided ‘positive reports’, according to Sports Witness.

Liverpool are likely to sign at least one new central defender in the summer despite the imminent arrival of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.

Ibrahima Konate’s deal expires in the summer, while there is uncertainty over Joe Gomez’s future. Furthermore, Giovanni Leoni is recovering from an ACL injury sustained on debut.

Lukeba has a release clause of €80m at Leipzig but the German sider are understood to be prepared to consider lower offers.
