Dodi Lukebakio marked his return to Benfica’s starting XI with the win at Arouca, then shared a message of belief for the matches ahead.
Benfica took three valuable points thanks to Richard Ríos and Franjo Ivanovic, remaining third on 62 points, level with Sporting, who have a game in hand, and seven behind Porto on 69.
The player said in a post that he now has more minutes in his legs, that it felt good, and that the team would keep giving their best. It was his first start in almost four months, the last coming before the November international break, when he was injured against Liechtenstein.
Lukebakio had been back in José Mourinho’s squad since mid-February, but the coach cited fitness as the reason for his reduced minutes. His selection suggests a fresh step in his recovery.
Not all of Benfica’s recent recruits are finding rhythm, as Sidny Cabral, signed in January, has not played since 25 February and was left out of the squad in Arouca.
