Lula signs law prioritising women’s football in Brazil | OneFootball

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has signed Law 15.522/2026, making women’s football a priority for Brazil’s sports policy.

According to Meu Timao, he posted a video on X showing the sanction, and the law ensures equal opportunities, protects physical and psychological integrity, respects pregnancy and maternity, and ensures equal pay.

It also expands player development and professionalisation, and encourages women into leadership, coaching and refereeing. The Sports Ministry is to work with the CBF, state federations and clubs to intensify action against discrimination and violence.

Lula pledged a social, sporting and financial legacy plan for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Neo Química Arena will be used during the tournament and will host Brazil in the second round of the group stage.

He also referenced Corinthians and joked about the men’s slump, even musing about a late-season switch with the women’s side after four straight home defeats.

The men have only one win in their last 10 matches and six consecutive league losses. They face Internacional on 7 October at 19:30 at Beira-Rio.

Separately, the CBF is developing a Women’s Football Strategy, with FIFA directors and specialists holding workshops this week, visits to CEFAN and the Daminhas da Bola project, and drafting set for Thursday and Friday. CBF president Samir Xaud said the work could leave a legacy for 2027, a view echoed by women’s national teams coordinator Cris Gambaré.
