Luton Town and Bradford City are among the clubs considering a January loan move for Sunderland youngster Trey Ogunsuyi.

Bradford and Luton are among the clubs tracking Sunderland’s Trey Ogunsuyi ahead of the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old striker has been with the Black Cats since he was ten, and he has progressed through the ranks to predominantly play for the U23 side, although he did make his first-team debut in the FA Cup in 2025.

However, Ogunsuyi is understandably down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light under Regis Le Bris, so he has had a few spells out on loan last season, featuring for Falkirk and Shrewsbury Town.

Despite going on loan last season, it was decided that Ogunsuyi should stay at Sunderland beyond the recent summer window, but that stance could seemingly change heading into the New Year.

That’s after journalist Alan Nixon revealed that a host of clubs in the EFL are in a ‘scramble’ to sign the teenager on loan.

He explains that League One promotion hopefuls Bradford and Luton are keen on Ogunsuyi, whilst League Two side Fleetwood Town are also in the hunt for the player.

As well as that, Nixon states that Dundee sent a scout to watch the youngster in Sunderland under-21’s EFL Trophy clash against Accrington during the week, with Ogunsuyi scoring in the 3-3 draw, which the Black Cats then lost on penalties.

In total, Ogunsuyi has scored five times in just four outings across the EFL Trophy and the Premier League 2 this year, and he's showing that he may be ready for another temporary exit in a few months from the Stadium of Light.

It’s fair to say that Ogunsuyi didn’t have the most productive spells out on loan last season, as he struggled for game time at Falkirk, which prompted Sunderland to bring him back halfway through the campaign.

Then, whilst he got more time at Shrewsbury, he managed two goals in 12 games, so he still didn’t play as much as he would’ve wanted.

Nevertheless, Ogunsuyi will have learned a lot from those spells, and his form with Sunderland’s development side suggests he is ready to make the step up.

It’s also important to remember how young Ogunsuyi is, and he has the physical profile to cause problems in the professional game, so you can see why there is interest.

It would still be a big ask for Ogunsuyi to join a club like Bradford or Luton, as the two clubs will expect to be pushing for promotion despite the Hatters' slow start, and any January addition will be expected to hit the ground running.

Obviously, that is something that Sunderland and the player will consider, because whilst it would be a big ask of the player, they will want Ogunsuyi to test himself at the highest level possible.

So, Fleetwood, and even Dundee, may feel that gives them an edge over Luton and Bradford, as they may be able to offer guaranteed game time.

But, as outlined above, that’s something for the Black Cats and the player to decide, but, either way, it seems apparent that Ogunsuyi needs to leave in January for the sake of his career.

That’s because he has proven himself for Sunderland at youth team level, and it’s now about trying to make his mark in the professional game.

In the short-term, Ogunsuyi will be focusing on scoring goals with Sunderland’s U23 side until January, and it will then be intriguing to see where he does end up, as a loan move in the next window feels inevitable.
