Luton Town have completed the signing of Luke Freeman on a free transfer as Nathan Jones continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.

The 30-year-old was without a club after leaving Sheffield United and he has been training with the Hatters recently in a bid to earn a contract.

And, he’s clearly impressed, as Luton announced on their official site this afternoon that the left-footer had agreed terms and signed a deal after passing a medical, with Freeman set to be with the squad as they head to Slovenia to continue their pre-season preparations.

Despite enduring a tough few years at Bramall Lane, which saw him leave for loan spells with Nottingham Forest and Millwall, Freeman had proven himself to be a top performer in the Championship earlier in his career with QPR.

Prior to that, he also had spells with Bristol City and Yeovil among other clubs, the latter of which he was a teammate and then player under Nathan Jones.

Jones’ side begin their Championship campaign against Birmingham at the end of the month.

The verdict

This seems like another smart bit of business from Luton as Freeman is someone who has a lot of quality and will bring more creativity to the team.

We know the Hatters aren’t in a position to be splashing the cash, so they have to be intelligent and search for bargains, with Freeman fitting the bill.

The player will also be wanting to get his career back on track and this could be the perfect club to rediscover the form he had shown earlier in his career.
