FLW's Luton fan pundit has shared their thoughts on the potential permanent arrival of Kasey Palmer this summer

Luton Town, despite an overall disappointing campaign, remain in contention for a play-off place with five games to go, with Jack Wilshere's side hitting a rich vein of form at just the right time.

On the whole, it has been another damning year for Luton, who, after suffering back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to League One, have fallen short of expectations once again.

Though with five games to go, the Hatters sit just three points off Stevenage in sixth place, although the Boro have an extra game in hand, and can widen the gap to six points if they are victorious in it.

Luton have hit form at just the right time, however, with Wilshere's side unbeaten in their last six league games and picking up 14 points from a possible 18 to remain well within reach of the top six.

Though many had expected them to be challenging higher up for the majority of the season, with Matt Bloomfield dismissed and replaced by Wilshere in what is the former Arsenal and England midfielder's first role as a head coach of a professional first-team side.

Wilshere used the January window to bring in some of his own players to Kenilworth Road, and one player in particular has shone brighter than most.

Kasey Palmer is open to a Luton Town return after an impressive loan spell with the Hatters from Hull City

Jamaican midfielder Kasey Palmer joined Luton on loan in January from Hull City after struggling for game time with the Tigers, and has impressed since his switch to Bedfordshire.

With four goals in 15 League One appearances since his winter move, Palmer has stated his willingness to return to Kenilworth Road next season, saying: "For sure, I’m enjoying the players, being in the dressing room, coming in every day, it’s a perfect fit I think.

Palmer added: "If it can continue next season then I wouldn’t be against it, but we’ll have to see what happens in the summer. I’m enjoying being here, enjoying the team, enjoying the staff, the fans, it’s just been perfect so far. The aim was to get in the play-offs when I signed, if we fall short I’ll be disappointed, but we’ve just got to keep going."

The Chelsea academy product has rarely settled anywhere for long across his career, with Luton being the 29-year-old's eighth different EFL club, and now, he looks to find a home with the Hatters.

Football League World's Luton fan pundit, Simon, has shared their views on whether they would like to see Palmer return to the club permanently this summer, and what they have made of the Jamaican so far.

Simon said: "I've been pretty vocal that I think Kasey Palmer has been the best player to come through our doors for quite a while.

"We badly needed a creative spark of some kind, and Palmer was tasked with coming in and giving us that spark, which was sorely lacking, and he's done just that. He's been brilliant to watch. I've loved watching him play football.

"I think he understands things well. A couple of times, he has made some celebratory gestures of signing a contract here. I would absolutely love for Kasey Palmer to join us permanently. I think it might depend on what happens in the play-off fight. Who knows, because he's very good. But I would love him there."

Jack Wilshere should look to secure a permanent deal for Kasey Palmer this summer at Luton Town amid the Jamaican's latest comments

What division Luton will be playing their football in next season remains up in the air, but regardless of that, a permanent switch for Palmer this summer should be high up on Wilshere's agenda.

With over 230 appearances at Championship level, a fully fledged international for Jamaica, and one of the most technically gifted players in League One, bringing Palmer back on a permanent basis next campaign should be a no-brainer for Luton and Wilshere.

With Sergej Jakirovic finding no place for the midfielder in his plans at Hull, he will likely be able to leave the club this summer for relatively cheap, despite having one more year on his deal on Humberside.

Palmer has shown glimpses of his quality since his arrival, and with a full pre-season under his belt with the Hatters, he has the potential to become one of their most important players next year in any instance.

Wilshere should look to get this deal done as soon as possible, and with Palmer keen to return, few stumbling blocks will delay this switch from becoming a permanent one.
