Luton Town are facing the harsh reality of life in League One as they embark on the summer transfer window.

Due to the financial stipulations of suffering successive relegations from the Premier League to the third-tier, the Hatters will have to be brutal with who they decide to keep at Kenilworth Road.

Marvelous Nakamba joined Luton in January 2023 from Aston Villa on an initial loan deal. He proceeded to play a crucial role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League and was therefore acquired permanently that summer.

However, injury troubles have since limited the midfielder’s impact on the side, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him shown the exit door in the upcoming window.

Furthermore, Nakamba is estimated to be earning a weekly wage of £30,000, which Luton would struggle to accommodate in League One.

Football League World’s Luton Town fan pundit, Simon Mills, would rather the 31-year-old stay and play a role in a promotion bid next season.

Luton Town backed to keep Marvelous Nakamba this summer

“If Nakamba still has time left on his contract I think that he'll end up staying,” stated Simon.

“I don't see many teams coming in and paying him the wage that he wants at this point with the injuries that he's suffered. Hopefully, he can put in some shifts for us next season to help us get back into the Championship.

“Obviously, we haven't seen the best of Nakamba since the play-off charge and he's suffered a ton of injuries over the last couple of seasons, which has really put a damper on things.

“But we do love Marvelous Nakamba here at Luton Town Football Club and if he stays, great. If he leaves, we wish him all the best.”

Nakamba may look to operate at a higher level next season

Although injury troubles have limited Nakamba’s impact on Luton’s performances the past few seasons, the midfielder has shown he is a capable player at the highest level of English football.

Before joining the Hatters, the Zimbabwe international enjoyed multiple years playing in the Premier League for Villa, making 58 top-flight appearances.

Those days are potentially behind Nakamba, but he could definitely still add something to a number of second-tier squads.

Given his reported £30,000 weekly wage and proven ability, it seems unlikely that Nakamba will run out for Luton in League One next term.

Therefore, it may be in the Hatters’ best interest to secure a sale and reinvest to best prepare their squad for a promotion charge.
