Paulo Fonseca’s Lyon could draw level with Gérard Houllier’s 2006 side by winning at Strasbourg on Sunday at 20:45, which would make it 14 in a row. L'Équipe notes that OL have put together 13 successive victories in all competitions.

It would be a striking achievement, as the 2006-07 team ruled Ligue 1 and mixed it with Europe’s best. This current run will be threatened at La Meinau, on what is expected to be an inhospitable pitch.

Back then, Juninho’s side trampled Marseille 4-1 at the Vélodrome and schooled Real Madrid 2-0 at Gerland, before the sequence ended on 4 November at the Stade de la Route de Lorient, Rennes winning 1-0.

Lyon still finished champions that season, but went out of the Champions League in the round of 16 to AS Rome, 0-0 then 0-2, exited the Coupe de France to Marseille, 1-2, and lost the Coupe de la Ligue final to Bordeaux, 0-1.

If OL win on Sunday, Fonseca could chase an outright record a week later at Marseille. In the meantime, four members of the 2006 team recall their dominance and express admiration for today’s less well equipped Lyon edging towards their mark.
