Lyon have completed the signing of 20-year-old Denmark U21 midfielder Noah Nartey from Brondby on a deal until June 2030. The club confirmed the move on Monday evening after he passed his medical, a timely addition for Paulo Fonseca’s squad.
The fee is €7.5m with bonuses up to €2.5m, and Brondby retain a 20 per cent share of any future profit on a resale. He becomes Lyon’s second signing of the winter window, with further ins and outs possible before the deadline.
Nartey, regarded as a leading prospect in Denmark and targeted by Lyon’s recruitment team, has recently operated higher up as a playmaker. In recent months he lifted his numbers to seven goals and three assists in all competitions.
He was sent off in his last competitive outing for Brondby, a 1-3 defeat to Fredericia on the first of December, and that red card carries a domestic suspension in Denmark until mid-February. He has made 70 senior appearances for Brondby, scoring 12 goals.
He is the fourth Dane to represent Lyon, following Kaj Frederik Christiansen and Erik Kuld Jensen in the 1950s, and defender Joachim Andersen, who made 35 appearances and scored two goals in 2019-2020. Another compatriot, Torben Frank, signed in 1992 but never played a competitive match after suffering an injury soon after signing without a prior medical.
